Friendly relationship between China and Indonesia has been strengthened since the two countries established strategic partnership in 2005. Frequent exchange of visits by State leaders greatly enhanced mutual understanding and friendship. Exchange and cooperation are reinforced in all areas including political, economic and trade, cultural, science and technology. Since the two countries are highly complementary in economy, there’s great potential for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
In 2008, trade volume between the two countries reached 31.5 billion US dollars, representing a growth of 25.7% year-on-year. China exported 17.19 billion US dollars of goods to Indonesia and imported 14.33 billion US dollars from Indonesia. New contracts were signed in engineering project contracting,labor service cooperation, project design and consulation with total value at 3.35 billion US dollars. In 2008, China's non-financial direct investment in Indonesia amounted to 180 million US dollars, while Indonesia's direct investment in China amounted to 140 million US dollars.
