Welcome to the website of Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Indonesia.

Both China and Indonesia are countries with vast territory, large population and long history. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations in 1990, Sino-Indonesian economic and trade cooperation have achieved overall development. Bilateral trade maintains rapid growth over the past two decades. Import and export between the two countries reached $31.52 billion in 2008, representing a year-on-year growth of 25.7%, and fulfilling the $30 billion-target two years ahead of time which was set by President Hu Jintao and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Being two populous countries rich in national resources, China and Indonesia are obviously complementary in the structure of resources, industries, import and export commodities. Machinery and electronics products make up a big share in Chinese export to Indonesia, while CPO, rubber, pulp and paper are the main export from Indonesia to China. China is the fourth largest trading partner of Indonesia.

Apart from the rapid growth of bilateral trade, direct two-way investment also make remarkable progress. Indonesia is one of the most favorite destinations in ASEAN for Chinese investors. More and more Chinese companies are coming to invest in power generating, home appliances, telecommunication, mining, transportation and etc. Chinese companies are also involving actively in infrastructure construction projects in Indonesia, including Cilacap power plant in central Jawa, Surabaya-Madura Bridge, Labuhan Angin coal power plant in North Sumatra Province, coal power plant in West Kalimantan province and Jatigede Dam in West Java.

Currently China and Indonesia have come to the critical stage of economic development. The Chinese government is dedicated to build up a harmonious society in China. The Indonesian government is also carrying forward its reform strategy steadily. These provide more opportunity for the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. There is a broad prospect for bilateral cooperation. The finalization of China-ASEAN FTA by 2010 will become an important momentum for the further development of China-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation. The Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia will make continuous effort to further promote economic and trade cooperation between China and Indonesia.
